The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) has issued a new Provider Information Notice (PIN) outlining updated infection control requirements for adult and senior care facilities, excluding Adult Residential Facilities for Persons with Special Health Care Needs. Effective February 7, 2022, the updated regulations include new guidelines on hand hygiene, environmental cleaning, medication safety, and the use of personal protective equipment. All facilities must develop an Infection Control Plan, which should be submitted to the CDSS by June 30, 2022. The plan must include training requirements, documentation requirements, and the designation of an Infection Preventionist staffing role. Facilities must also develop an Emergency Infection Control Plan in the event of a state or federal emergency for a communicable disease. Non-compliance with these regulations may result in penalties or other consequences for affected healthcare facilities.
