The California Department of Health has issued a new All Facilities Letter (AFL) extending the suspension of professional certification requirements for Home Health Aide (HHA) Training Programs until March 31, 2022, due to the ongoing COVID-19 state of emergency. The temporary waiver allows HHA Training Programs to provide up to 75 hours of required classroom training through online or distance learning formats. Nursing facilities and HHA Training Programs must still notify the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) of any changes to core curriculum, training hours, program staff, or contracted services. HHA Training Programs can also apply for waivers of other requirements, including alternative ways to conduct clinical training. Requests for specific emergency waivers must be submitted to the Healthcare Workforce Branch via email. The AFL aims to protect public health and safety while maintaining training standards during the pandemic.
