The California Department of Health has issued a new All Facilities Letter (AFL) requiring healthcare personnel (HCP) in healthcare facilities and direct care settings to be up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations and receive boosters by February 1, 2022, unless exempt. The letter also updates testing requirements, mandating at least twice-weekly COVID-19 testing for unvaccinated exempt HCP and booster-eligible HCP who have not yet received their booster in acute care or long-term care settings. In other healthcare settings, such HCP must be tested at least once a week. Facilities and providers must document HCP COVID-19 vaccination or exemption status by September 30, 2021, for healthcare facilities, and by November 30, 2021, for home health agencies and hospice providers. Non-compliance with the public health orders may result in enforcement actions by the California Department of Public Health.
