The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued a new All Facilities Letter (AFL) updating and consolidating visitation guidance for healthcare facilities in response to COVID-19 vaccination progress. Effective June 22, 2021, hospitals should allow up to two visitors from the same household for all patients, provided physical distancing can be maintained. Specific patient groups, such as pediatric and end-of-life patients, can have up to two visitors from different households. Visitors must be screened for COVID-19 symptoms, wear face coverings and personal protective equipment, and maintain physical distancing. Fully vaccinated visitors and patients may interact without face coverings and physical distancing in certain situations. Facilities should also provide frequent video and phone call visit options. Long-term care facilities should refer to AFL 20-22.8 for updated visitation guidance.
