Clearpol's Summary of this Guidance

The California Department of Public Health has issued an Excessive Heat Watches and Warnings alert for Southern California from June 19 to June 21, 2016. The alert recommends that healthcare facilities implement precautionary measures to keep patients and residents safe and comfortable during the extreme heat. Facilities must also have contingency plans in place to deal with the loss of air conditioning or take measures to ensure patients and residents are free of adverse conditions that may cause heat-related health complications. The alert reminds facilities that elderly and other health-compromised individuals are more susceptible to extreme temperatures and dehydration. The L&C Program recommends facilities review "Fast Facts: Preventing Summer Heat Injuries" attached to AFL 16-06 for guidance and recommendations on how to keep residents and clients comfortable during extremely hot weather.
