The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued an All Facilities Letter requesting that all skilled nursing facilities designate an emergency contact person and an AFL recipient. This comes after the CDPH upgraded the California Health Alert Network (CAHAN) system. Facilities are also asked to verify their emergency contact and AFL recipient information yearly. To provide this information, facilities should use the SurveyMonkey link within 30 days. At the time of license renewal, facilities will be asked to verify the accuracy of the emergency and AFL recipient contact information listed in the Electronic License Management System. Any changes must be reported to the appropriate district office. CDPH also encourages facilities to have built-in communication redundancy in case of an emergency. For any questions or concerns, facilities should contact Dr. Carolyn M. Macola of the Emergency Preparedness & Disaster Response Unit.
