The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) has issued a new Provider Information Notice (PIN) announcing the resumption of inspections using the full Compliance and Regulatory Enforcement (CARE) Tools, starting March 1, 2023. This PIN supersedes the previous PIN 21-35-ASC and will focus on all health and safety requirements necessary to support compliance with statutes and regulations applicable to adult and senior care facilities. Inspections will switch from primarily using the Infection Control domain to utilizing all domains in the CARE Tools, with the Infection Control domain updated to include new infection control regulations. Licensees are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the CARE Tools and inspection processes, as CDSS will cite legal authority not listed in the tools if appropriate. Licensees may also be asked to participate in a short survey relating to their experiences with the CARE Tool inspection process. Lastly, licensees should continue to follow guidance from healthcare providers, CDC, CDPH, CDDS, Cal/OSHA, and local health departments.
