The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) has issued a new Provider Information Notice (PIN) regarding fingerprinting instructions for Resource Family Approval (RFA) relatives. Effective January 1, 2022, Senate Bill 354 (SB 354) provides new flexibility for granting criminal record exemptions for RFA relatives and other adults living in the relative's home. To ensure proper processing of background checks, applicants must use the new "RFA Relative" Working Title when submitting the Live Scan form. The Care Provider Management Bureau recommends starting the background check process in Guardian to reduce delays. Applicants should select "RFA Relative" when prompted to enter the Position Category and Position. If manually filling out a blank Live Scan form, applicants should handwrite or type in "RFA Relative" as the Working Title. For questions, contact the Care Provider Management Bureau at Guardian@dss.ca.gov.
