The California Department of Health has issued an All Facilities Letter (AFL) addressing the national shortage of contrast media, a critical resource for healthcare facilities. The Multi-Agency Coordination (MAC) Group has been activated to manage resource requests related to contrast media. Facilities should submit requests through their local Medical and Health Operational Area Coordinator (MHOAC) using established processes. The MAC Group will evaluate requests, review inventory levels, and allocate distribution to areas in critical need based on a uniform decision-making matrix. Currently, only requests for critically needed ISOVUE-200 with a seven-day supply quantity will be evaluated. Resources will be allocated to facilities with depleted or soon-to-be depleted inventories that will impact their operations. Facilities are urged to continue procuring contrast media through existing vendors and relationships before elevating requests to their MHOAC. Questions regarding the AFL should be directed to the respective MHOAC using provided contact information.
