The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has issued a new provider letter (PL 2021-04) clarifying the reporting process for positive COVID-19 cases in assisted living facilities (ALFs), intermediate care facilities (ICFs), and nursing facilities (NFs). Facilities are required to report their first positive case of COVID-19 in a resident or staff member, as well as any new positive cases after being COVID-19 free for 14 days or longer. Reporting should be done within 24 hours of the confirmed positive result. Facilities are not required to report cases in residents admitted with active COVID-19 infections or those who develop the infection within 14 days of admission. The letter also provides contact information for reporting and emphasizes that federal and state COVID-19 reporting requirements may differ.
