The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued an All Facilities Letter (AFL) recommending healthcare facilities to offer COVID-19 vaccinations and booster doses to clinically eligible individuals. The letter emphasizes the importance of vaccinations, boosters, testing, and masking in light of the more transmissible recent variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Facilities are reminded to offer and encourage vaccinations, including booster doses, to those at the highest risk of morbidity and mortality. The Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna mRNA vaccines are preferred over the Janssen (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine, but vaccination should not be delayed for a specific product. COVID-19 booster doses help strengthen immunity and increase protection against the Omicron variant. Clinically eligible individuals can be directed to the MyTurn or CDC Vaccines websites for assistance. Facilities interested in becoming COVID-19 vaccine providers can visit myCAvax. For questions about the AFL, facilities can contact the Healthcare-Associated Infections Program at HAIProgram@cdph.ca.gov.
