The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued an updated All Facilities Letter (AFL) for skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) to prepare for COVID-19. The AFL provides a toolkit for managing exposures and recognized cases in SNFs and congregate living settings. SNFs are recommended to take steps to prevent the introduction of COVID-19, detect cases within their facilities, prepare to receive and care for residents with suspected or confirmed infections, prevent the spread of the virus, and notify residents' family members or representatives if a COVID-19 positive healthcare worker or resident is detected. The CDPH has also provided guidance for prevention, containment, and mitigation measures for COVID-19 in SNFs. Facilities must report confirmed cases to their local public health department and district office, as well as any urgent personal protective equipment or staffing needs.
