The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) has issued a new Provider Information Notice (PIN) that rescinds the statewide waiver for tuberculosis (TB) testing related to the timing of COVID-19 vaccinations for healthcare licensees, providers, and staff. The PIN, 21-20-CCLD, supersedes the previous PIN 21-03-CCLD and is effective as of October 21, 2021. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated its guidance, now allowing TB tests to be administered without delay, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status. As a result, nursing homes and other healthcare facilities must now comply with TB testing requirements as they were before the waiver was granted. The CDC states that COVID-19 vaccination should not be delayed due to TB testing, and testing can be done before, after, or during the same encounter as the vaccination. TB testing waivers for other situations remain available for Adult and Senior Care licensees and Child Care licensees and providers, as specified in PIN 20-37-ASC and PIN 20-04-CCP, respectively.
