The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) has issued a Provider Information Notice (PIN) delaying the implementation of PIN 21-31-ASC and temporarily postponing the resumption of inspections using the Compliance and Regulatory Enforcement (CARE) tools. Instead, CDSS will maintain its priority focus on infection control and continue to conduct annual inspections using the Infection Control domain. This decision comes in response to Governor Newsom's Proclamation of a State of Emergency and Executive Order N-08-21, aiming to reach as many healthcare settings as possible during the latest COVID-19 surge. The Department will release a future PIN announcing the effective date for resuming inspections using the full CARE tools. Healthcare facilities, including nursing homes, should continue to prioritize infection control measures and be prepared for inspections in this area.
