The California Department of Health has issued a new All Facilities Letter (AFL) requiring skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) to implement processes for verifying the vaccination status of all healthcare personnel (HCP) and obtaining and tracking documentation of SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic screening testing from unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated HCP. The letter also includes additional personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements. These requirements are effective August 9, 2021, and full compliance must be achieved no later than August 23, 2021. The AFL aims to minimize the spread of COVID-19 among vulnerable individuals and ensure resident safety. Non-compliance may result in consequences for affected healthcare facilities. SNFs must develop and implement plans for tracking verified worker vaccination status and documenting test results, conducting workplace contact tracing and response testing, and reporting results to public health departments.
