The California Department of Health issued a new All Facilities Letter (AFL) informing healthcare facilities of the updated Fiscal Year (FY) 2021-22 license renewal fees, effective from July 1, 2021. The fee schedule includes increased amounts of up to 1.3% compared to the previous year, due to a revised calculation of health facility/bed counts. Renewal notices and applications will be sent to facilities 45-120 days before the license expiration date. Late payment penalties will be imposed for facilities that are delinquent in paying license renewal fees. Medi-Cal offsets may be used to recoup license renewal fees and associated late payment penalties. Facilities should review the License Renewal Application (LRA) in its entirety and make any necessary changes. The California Department of Public Health recommends using a mailing method with tracking capabilities and allowing 4-6 weeks for license processing.
