The California Department of Health has issued an All Facilities Letter temporarily waiving specified statutory and regulatory requirements for Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs) due to the COVID-19 state of emergency. The waivers will expire on September 30, 2021. Nurse assistants employed under this waiver must complete the initial certification program to continue providing care. All nurse assistants must complete the test for tuberculosis infection by September 30, 2021. CNAs with an existing waiver must complete 48 required hours of in-service and continuing education units by January 31, 2022. CNAs employed under the expired certification waiver must renew their certification to continue providing care. Licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) and registered nurses (RNs) must receive CNA certification approval to continue providing care. CNAs must notify the department of a change of address by September 30, 2021.
