The California Department of Health has issued a new All Facilities Letter (AFL) temporarily waiving specified requirements for Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs) due to the COVID-19 state of emergency. The letter allows CNAs in "employable during state of emergency" status to complete in-service or continuing education units for certificate renewal. The waiver also covers initial certification, renewal, expired certification, reciprocity, and report of change. Facilities are required to retain a copy of the applicant's verification form for four years. The temporary waiver will expire on September 30, 2021, and CNAs seeking certificate renewal must complete the required hours of in-service or continuing education units by January 31, 2022.
