The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued an updated All Facilities Letter (AFL) providing new recommendations for diagnostic screening testing of healthcare personnel (HCP) and response-driven testing of residents at skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). The updated guidance takes into account the vaccination status of HCP and the percentage of fully vaccinated residents and HCP in a facility. SNFs may discontinue routine diagnostic screening testing of asymptomatic HCP who are fully vaccinated and work in a facility where at least 70% of residents and HCP are fully vaccinated. However, weekly diagnostic screening testing should continue for unvaccinated or partially vaccinated HCP. Additionally, the letter provides updated testing and quarantine guidance for newly admitted and readmitted residents based on their vaccination status.
