The California Department of Health has issued a new All Facilities Letter (AFL) outlining requirements for online or distance learning Nurse Assistant Training Programs (NATPs). The eLearning Review Unit was established to review applications from skilled nursing facilities, intermediate care facilities, and educational institutions wishing to offer 60 hours of online or distance learning classroom training. Online NATPs must meet the same standards as traditional classroom-based programs, including providing a minimum of 100 hours of supervised clinical training in person at an approved facility. Facilities must submit a complete application package, including a prototype or fully developed learning management system, to the eLearning Unit. The program provider is responsible for maintaining compliance with all codes, regulations, and rules pertaining to the operation of their NATP.
