Nursing homes and other healthcare facilities must provide or obtain radiology and other diagnostic services to meet the needs of their residents. The facility is responsible for the quality and timeliness of the services. If the facility provides its own services, they must meet the applicable conditions of participation for hospitals as outlined in §482.26 of this subchapter. If the facility does not provide its own services, they must have an agreement to obtain these services from a provider or supplier approved under Medicare. If there are any questions or concerns, the facility should refer to the State Agency or CMS Regional Office for appropriate discussion and follow-up with surveyors trained in assessing compliance with §482.26. Noncompliance with this letter can result in citations for failing to provide or obtain radiology and other diagnostic services, not meeting the needs of residents with regard to the quality and/or timeliness of services, or not having a written agreement to obtain services from a provider approved under Medicare. Nursing homes and other healthcare facilities must take action to ensure that they are compliant with the requirements outlined in this letter in order to avoid any citations.
