Nursing homes and other healthcare facilities must provide written information to residents or resident representatives about their bed-hold policies prior to and upon transfer. This includes the duration of the bed-hold policy, the reserve bed payment policy, and the facility's policies regarding bed-hold periods. Facilities must also provide notice at the time of transfer specifying the duration of the bed-hold policy and the reserve bed payment policy. These policies must be consistent with the state plan and the regulations outlined in §483.15(e)(1). Facilities must also make all residents aware of their policies related to holding beds during absences from the facility. Nursing homes and other healthcare facilities must ensure that residents are given notice of bed-hold policies and understand them, and must document multiple attempts to reach the resident’s representative in cases where the facility was unable to notify them.
