The California Department of Public Health has issued an All Facilities Letter (AFL) providing recommendations for non-emergency transportation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) must ensure residents can attend medical appointments while following safety procedures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The department recommends SNFs coordinate with their contracted non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) and non-medical transportation (NMT) providers to follow the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) COVID-19 Guidance for NEMT and NMT Providers. Recommendations include cleaning frequently touched surfaces, wearing facemasks, turning off air recirculation, and following proper hand hygiene. These recommendations apply regardless of the payer source for the transportation company. SNFs should contact their local district office for any questions related to the AFL.
