The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued an All Facilities Letter outlining its survey priorities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The CDPH will prioritize focused infection control surveys, complaint and facility-reported incident investigations, revisits associated with immediate jeopardy, licensing surveys, skilled nursing facility (SNF) COVID-19 mitigation plan visits, SNF high-risk visits, and hospital surge monitoring visits. SNFs will receive a visit from CDPH every six to eight weeks to validate their mitigation plans. If a facility is found to be non-compliant, enforcement action may be taken. CDPH will also use predictive analytics to identify and monitor SNFs at high risk of outbreaks and increased infection spread. General Acute Care Hospitals (GACHs) will be monitored for surge capacity, with high-risk hospitals receiving surge monitoring visits. Facilities are encouraged to conduct self-assessments using the CMS Infection Control Checklist.
