The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued an All Facilities Letter encouraging nursing homes to participate in Health Services Advisory Group's (HSAG) quality improvement initiatives sponsored by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). HSAG provides COVID-19 data reports and resources to nursing homes in COVID-19 hot spot areas. CDPH urges facilities to confer Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Health Safety Network (NHSN) rights to HSAG. Nursing homes are asked to partner with HSAG to support CMS' national nursing home goals, including increasing quality scores, improving infection prevention, decreasing opioid misuse, preventing adverse drug events, improving quality of care transitions, and preventing avoidable readmissions. Nursing homes will benefit from HSAG's expertise in quality improvement and infection control and will receive customized tools, data reports, and resources at no cost. CDPH requests that all nursing homes confer rights to HSAG to view data in NHSN by September 30, 2020. If an HSAG representative contacts a nursing home, CDPH requests that the nursing home administrator responds timely to ensure access to HSAG's resources and trainings. CDPH supports these important CMS quality initiatives and requests nursing homes to participate with HSAG to improve care for residents.
