The California Department of Public Health has issued an All Facilities Letter (AFL) temporarily waiving specified regulatory requirements for Nurse Assistant Training Programs (NATPs) due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The letter allows NATPs to provide 60 hours of classroom training through online or distance learning formats and permits nursing facilities to conduct clinical training at any time. Additionally, nursing facilities can use a licensed nurse as a Director of Staff Development without showing evidence of recruitment efforts. In-service training and continuing education training can also be provided through online or distance learning formats. Nursing facilities can offer a portion of the required orientation program activities through online or distance learning. This waiver is valid until the end of the declared emergency.
