The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued a new All Facilities Letter (AFL) allowing healthcare facilities in counties with medium or low COVID-19 positivity rates to permit one visitor per patient at a time. The AFL also provides guidelines for specific individuals, including pediatric patients, labor and delivery patients, neonatal intensive care unit patients, pediatric intensive care unit patients, end-of-life patients, and patients with disabilities or cognitive impairments. The guidelines apply regardless of the county's COVID-19 positivity rate. Additionally, the letter encourages facilities to facilitate frequent video and phone call visits for residents and patients. Healthcare facilities must screen visitors for fever and COVID-19 symptoms and require them to wear face coverings and other personal protective equipment as necessary. Long-term care facilities should refer to AFL 20-22.5 for updated visitation guidance.
