The California Department of Health has issued a new All Facilities Letter (AFL) providing guidance for adult day health centers (ADHCs) to mitigate and prevent the transmission of COVID-19. The letter recommends that ADHCs stay updated with local health department information, know the signs and symptoms of COVID-19, review and update emergency operations plans, use telephone and other distant communication methods to provide services, and consider temporary closure or quarantine of the facility. For centers providing in-person services, they should encourage personal protective measures, clean frequently touched surfaces daily, ensure hand hygiene supplies are readily available, implement social distancing measures, eliminate group gatherings, alter schedules to reduce mixing, limit programs with external staff, screen participants and staff for fever and respiratory symptoms, and enact a no-visitor policy. ADHCs should also monitor the CDC's Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) webpage for additional community guidance as it becomes available.
