Notifying SNFs that the veterinary sedative Xylazine is emerging in the US illicit drug supply, predominately with fentanyl use. SNFs, should be prepared to support residents who have been exposed to xylazine.
The AFL has guidance about resident symptoms to suspect xylazine exposure and inform clinicians and clinical management of residents with exposure, including wound care.
CDPH recommends that all SNFs provide optimal follow-up care after a fentanyl-positive urine screen.
