The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced updates to the Nursing Home Care Compare Staffing and Quality Measures. The staffing level case-mix adjustment methodology will be updated and some Quality Measures will be replaced to accommodate changes to the Minimum Data Set (MDS). The CMS-672 form will be discontinued due to the elimination of section G MDS data. CMS will also penalize providers who fail to submit accurate staffing data by revising the staffing rating methodology, leading to the lowest possible score for corresponding staffing turnover measures. From April 2024, CMS will freeze staffing measures for three months during the transition to a new model. Nursing homes failing to submit staffing data will receive the lowest score for staff turnover measures from April 2024.
