The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) has issued a Provider Information Notice (PIN) requiring all licensed Adult Residential Facilities (ARFs) and Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFEs) to participate in an annual survey. The survey aims to collect data on facilities that accept residents with serious mental disorders and/or accept the federal Supplemental Security Income (SSI) rate. This initiative is in response to California's ongoing homeless and housing crisis, which disproportionately affects individuals with mental illness and recipients of federal SSI benefits. The data collected will be used to develop community resources for individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and physical disabilities. Facilities should have received the first annual survey by email on February 22, 2021, and it will remain open until March 7, 2021. The information collected will be shared only with California county departments of mental health or behavioral health and will not be made publicly available. Participation in the survey is required by law.
