The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued an All Facilities Letter (AFL) expanding visitation guidance for healthcare facilities, effective March 23, 2021. The new guidance allows facilities with substantial or lower COVID-19 county positivity rates to encourage more visitors while updating prior recommendations for visitation. It also provides expanded visitation guidelines for specific individuals, such as pediatric patients, patients in labor and delivery, and patients at end-of-life. Long-term care facilities should refer to AFL 20-22.6 for updated visitation guidance. Facilities must screen visitors for fever and COVID-19 symptoms and require face coverings and other personal protective equipment as appropriate. Non-compliance may result in penalties or restrictions.
