The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued a new All Facilities Letter (AFL) outlining survey priorities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The letter states that CDPH will discontinue Mitigation Surveys and resume relicensing and recertification surveys in Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) starting April 1, 2021. Until then, CDPH will prioritize focused infection control surveys, complaint and facility-reported incident investigations, revisits associated with immediate jeopardy, licensing surveys, SNF COVID-19 mitigation plan visits, SNF high-risk visits, and hospital surge monitoring visits. The letter also provides guidance on self-assessment checklists for infection control and surge preparedness. Non-compliance with the outlined priorities may result in enforcement action from CDPH. Healthcare facilities should familiarize themselves with the new AFL and ensure they are prepared for the upcoming changes.
