The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued a new All Facilities Letter requesting that all long-term care facilities provide emergency contact and AFL recipient information. This comes after the CDPH upgraded the California Health Alert Network (CAHAN) system in September 2015. The CAHAN system is used to send important mass notifications, including Emergency Alerts, Health Notifications, Information Bulletins, and AFLs. Facilities are asked to provide information for a designated emergency contact reachable 24 hours a day, as well as an alternate contact. Additionally, facilities should provide information for an AFL recipient and an alternate. CDPH encourages facilities to sign up with their respective county emergency medical services agency and/or local department of public health emergency communication system.
