The California Department of Health has issued a new All Facilities Letter inviting nursing facilities and skilled nursing facilities to participate in the Automated Survey Processing Environment (ASPEN) Web: Electronic Plan of Correction (ePOC) web-based application. This application allows providers to receive their Statement of Deficiencies (CMS-2567) and submit their Plan of Correction (POC) electronically, streamlining the submission, review, correction, and approval process. The department is seeking 100% participation from these facilities. The ePOC application will replace paper-based communications between participants and the Licensing and Certification Program (L&C) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Regional Office. Providers must submit a POC response for each cited tag via ePOC within ten calendar days of receipt of the email notification. L&C and the CMS Regional Office will review the POC for each deficient practice and approve or disapprove each one. If a POC is rejected, the facility will receive an email notification listing the reasons for rejection and must revise and resubmit the POC. Upon approval of POCs for all deficiencies, facility users will receive a final approval email.
