The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued a new All Facilities Letter encouraging nursing homes to participate in the National Nursing Home Quality Care Collaborative (NNHQCC). This initiative, sponsored by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), aims to improve nursing home quality on a large scale. The NNHQCC focuses on reducing healthcare-acquired conditions, antipsychotic medication rates, avoidable hospital readmissions, and staff turnover, while increasing vaccination rates and resident mobility. Participating nursing homes will receive training in Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement principles, no-cost assistance with intervention development, and access to best practice information. They will also gain local and national recognition for their efforts. To join the NNHQCC, nursing homes must complete and sign a Participation Agreement and return it to the Health Services Advisory Group (HSAG). The CDPH supports this quality initiative and urges nursing homes to participate in the collaborative to improve care for their residents.
