The California Department of Health has issued a new All Facilities Letter (AFL) regarding nurse assistant electronic fingerprinting. Assembly Bill 1807 requires health facilities used as clinical skills sites for nurse assistant certification training to arrange and pay for Live Scan services for trainees. This applies to facilities operating their own training programs or those contracting with another program. The Department has no authority to change these statutory requirements. However, the law does not prohibit health facilities from receiving funds from another source to make such payments, as long as it does not result in costs being passed through to the trainees. Non-compliance may result in penalties or loss of certification. Facilities must implement these changes as soon as possible.
