The California Department of Health has issued a new All Facilities Letter stating that applicants for Nurse Assistants, Home Health Aides, and Hemodialysis Technicians are no longer required to send fees or payments for initial or renewal certification. However, applicants must still comply with state and federal laws, including in-service and continuing education hours. Delinquency fees for late payments will no longer be assessed, but certificate holders must renew their certificates in a timely manner to avoid delays. All checks and money orders received after July 12, 2006, will be returned. Certificate holders must also notify the California Department of Health Services of any address changes within 60 days. The cost of Live Scan and Department of Justice criminal clearance processing will continue to be paid by Home Health Aides and Hemodialysis Technicians, while health facilities will cover costs for Nurse Assistant applicants. For any questions, contact Ley Arquisola, R.N., Chief, CNA/HHA/CHT Certification Unit at (916) 327-2445 or via email at cna@dhs.ca.gov.
