The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) has issued a Provider Information Notice (PIN) granting a statewide waiver for certain medical assessment requirements for adult and senior care facilities in response to COVID-19. The waiver allows immediate acceptance of residents into these facilities without the need for a medical assessment prior to admission. Instead, facilities must obtain documentation of prior medical services, current medical status, prescribed medications, contagious/infectious diseases, and a Tuberculosis clearance. A COVID-19 clearance is also required, if applicable. This waiver is effective until June 30, 2020, or earlier if notified by the Department. After the waiver expires, all medical assessment requirements shall be reinstated, and facilities must obtain documentation of a medical assessment within 90 days after the state of emergency ends.
