The California Department of Health has issued a new All Facilities Letter (AFL) notifying Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) of the extension of the maximum time between state licensing inspections from two years to 30 months, effective January 1, 2023. This change is due to the implementation of Assembly Bill 1907. However, the department must still annually inspect SNFs with a class "AA," class "A," or class "B" citation issued within the prior 12 months. Facilities are responsible for following all laws and regulations, even if not expressly notified by the department. If facilities have questions or concerns, they should contact their district office.
