The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) has issued a new Provider Information Notice (PIN) announcing tele-inspections and Rapid Assistance and Support Team (RAST) tele-visits for adult and senior care facilities. Effective March 26, 2020, Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) will conduct tele-inspections for pre-licensing inspections, case management inspections, and complaints that are not Priority 1 level allegations. Priority 1 complaints will still require an on-site inspection. RAST tele-visits will be conducted using virtual video conferencing, and a phone call or conference call will not be sufficient. Tele-inspections and RAST tele-visits are part of CDSS's emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Non-compliance with these new requirements may result in penalties or other consequences. Facilities should expect to be contacted by their LPA to schedule a tele-visit or tele-inspection.
