Clearpol's Opinion of this Guidance as of 09/01/2022
This provides updated guidance and direction related to resident cohorting, isolation, and quarantine, staffing considerations and use of PPE based on resident COVID-19 status.
This supersedes PIN 21-15-ASC and provides the following updates:
· Definition of close contact and infectious period
· Recommended timeframe to test following a close contact with someone during the infectious period is now 3-5 days after an exposure.
· Duration of resident quarantine for exposed residents who are unvaccinated, or who have completed their primary series and are booster eligible but not yet boosted is now 5-10 days
Updated chart with resident isolation and cohorting and staffing considerations by resident COVID-19 status.
Updated Appendix A and Appendix B
New Close Contact and Infectious Period Definitions
Per the State Public Health Officer Order of June 8, 2022, CDPH Guidance for Local Health Jurisdictions on Isolation and Quarantine of the General Public (6/9/2022) and CDPH Isolation and Quarantine Q&A (7/21/2022), close contact is defined as someone sharing the same indoor airspace (e.g., home, clinic waiting room, airplane, etc.) for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period with a person who is COVID-19 positive during their infectious period.
The infectious period starts two days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic individuals, two days prior to the date a positive test specimen is collected) until they meet the criteria for ending isolation.
Cohorting of Residents based on COVID-19 status has some clarifying language for the infectious period.
Facilities needing additional assistance with staffing should contact the Regional Office. Also refer to PIN 22-09-ASC for staff isolation and quarantine guidance.
