The California Department of Health has issued a new All Facilities Letter (AFL) extending the Palliative Care Pilot Program (PCPP) until January 1, 2027, and updating the reporting deadlines. The PCPP allows licensed hospices to provide interdisciplinary services, including palliative care, to patients with serious illnesses. Hospices must notify the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) of their intent to participate in the program and submit annual reports by April 30 for the prior calendar year. Reporting is required through April 30, 2025, and hospices must inform CDPH if they intend to cease participation in the PCPP before January 1, 2027. A stakeholder meeting will be held before January 15, 2026, to discuss the collected information. Hospices should refer to the full text of all applicable sections of the Health and Safety Code and the California Code of Regulations to ensure compliance.
